Santa Rosa Valley Firewise is committed to making srvisfirewise.org accessible to all valley residents, regardless of ability, technology, or language preference. We aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Where possible, we’ve built for AAA — particularly on color contrast for body text.
What we’ve done
- Semantic HTML throughout, with correct heading order, landmark regions, and skip-to-content links.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation on every page. Every interactive element can be reached, activated, and completed without a mouse.
- Color contrast meets AA on all body text against page backgrounds. Specific palette contrast ratios are documented in our brand guidelines.
- Alt text on all meaningful images. Decorative images use aria-hidden and empty alt.
- Forms are labeled, error messages are announced to screen readers, and validation is inline.
- Screen-reader tested using VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows) on all form pages and the home page.
- Reduced motion respected via prefers-reduced-motion; no animation is essential to comprehension.
- Zoom to 200% preserves layout and readability on all core pages.
- Language. The primary language of the site is English. Priority pages are also available in Spanish (Español) — use the language toggle in the header.
What we’re still working on
- Full Spanish translation of the entire site (top-priority pages are done; deeper resources are in progress).
- Alternative-format documents (large-print PDFs of the Home Hardening Guide, etc.) — email [email protected] to request one.
