Our mission

Santa Rosa Valley Firewise is a community-led coalition of neighborhood Firewise USA® sites. We coordinate education, defensible-space efforts, free home wildfire assessment referrals (via our partners at the Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council), and resident outreach across the participating neighborhoods in our valley.

We’re not a fire department, and we’re not a government agency. We’re neighbors — everyday people, working professionals, retirees, multi-generational families, horse owners, weekend homesteaders — pooling effort to protect our homes and one another.

The Santa Rosa Valley is a rural residential community set in oak savanna and chaparral. It’s a place families move to because they want space, quiet, large and small animals, land — and it’s also a place where wildfire is a fact of life. Our job is to make it easier for every household to do the things that reduce that risk.

What we do

• Coordinate Firewise USA® activities across eight participating communities — six of them NFPA-recognized
• Connect residents with free home wildfire assessments through the Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council
• Maintain the at-risk resident registry and evacuation phone tree
• Publish defensible-space and home-hardening resources tailored to our specific landscape
• Apply for grants and channel funding to community projects
• Run the annual NFPA renewal process on behalf of each recognized Firewise USA® community
• Serve as the valley’s point of contact for Ventura County Fire, CAL FIRE, and regional partners

Financial & governance

SRV Firewise is currently working toward 501(c)(3) status. In the interim, we operate as an unincorporated volunteer coalition. Funding comes from grants (CAL FIRE, SoCal Edison, NFPA Firewise USA®), HOA contributions, and community donations. If you’d like to support our work directly, see the Donate page.
